The Splinter Cell series has been possibly the most renowned stealth action series to date. However, it has always been a bit weak on the Gamecube when compared to the other platforms. This holds up for the third installment of the series as well. Although this is the only Splinter Cell game I own for the Gamecube, I have played the other two and let me say this now: Chaos Theory is the best of its genre for the Gamecube by far. For this review, I have decided to review this game based on its own merit as a game and *not* as a review based on comparisions between this game and its other manifestations on the other platforms. Graphically, this is a beautiful game for the cube. Everything, just everything, is well done but the lighting deserves a metion. The lighting in SC:CT is its best and worst part . Although things like shadows are detailed and realistic, the general lighting level is terrible. It's extremely hard to find a balance of light and dark in this one. As such, you're constantly switching between nightvision and normal viewing modes just to get a general look at the scene. In terms of sound, SC:CT performs amicably. The background noise is good, the voice acting is solid, and the soundtrack laid out by Amon Tobin really lends itself to some wonderful mood setting. The addition of the sound meter to complement the light meter was a smart choice by Ubisoft, as now you can sneak, walk, or run confidently without any worries of being caught by keeping an eye on your meters. In terms of graphics and sound, this game scored upper-average marks (about 77%-80%) in my books but what really brought it up was the gameplay. It's this game's redeemer for all other faults. It's damned hard to get bored of sneaking up behind emenies from every direction possible and taking them out with, well, cool spy moves. The gagets obviously help too. The addition of the OCP on the pistol is especially useful. The multipathed levels and co-op mode is well done as well. If you want a game that will absolutely wow you in terms of great looking graphics and technical issues, then this game would probably not be your best choice but if you're looking for fun that involves snapping neaks, you're in for a great time.
