This game will suck. Thats what I first thought when I saw the cel-shade. My oh my was I foolish back then. Many sceptics about how a game is only good if it has realistic graphics to be good should play this for an hour and they will see the light. I know I did. Many people may class the Legend of Zelda Wind Waker's graphics as being crap but don't be fooled just because it looks like a cartoon. The graphical style actually suits the gameplay and in my opinion was probably the best choice for this game.
The Story
This game shows an intro of a legend. These are the events that happened in the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Than it tells you how the evil man(Gannon) rose again and that the hero didn't return. What became of the kingdom, "none remain who know". Than it tells you about the customs on a certain island called Outset. It says on the day they became of age, thay will dress in green and find heroic blade of there own but none showed the courage of the hero.
It starts in a cut scene with Link's sister trying to find him. Here you get to see the setting is a huge ocean. She finds him and sends Link to his Grandma to recieve his birthday present(Its his birthday). Link gets his green clothes and goes back to his sister who gives him a telescope and he see's pirates shooting at a giant bird with a girl in its tallons. They hit it and the bird drops the girls who lands on a mountain summit. Link sees the village swords master and gets a sword from him and goes up and saves the girls. They exit that area and Links sister comes up and the giant bird comes and grabs her. Link sets out with the pirates, the girl Link saved who's name is Tetra there leader to save Link's sister. But things seem to get more serious as Link stumbles on a secret. I won't say anything else but Tetra play's a huge part in the game and she has a secret of her own. Also you get a boat ans sale the Ocean.
Graphics. The graphics a really good and don't think I'm nuts. It really looks like a living cartoon. The two main reason which I can think of for this graphics change is that the game involves wind malipulation and you see the wind. This wouldn't look good in realistic graphics. Two it enables great facial expressions. When Link see's his sister get kidnapped you can see sadness, when Link gets scared you can see it. The graphics really suit the game.
Sound
Not quite as good as the previous installments but still good at that. Not enough overworld tunes but the dungeon tunes are great and calm you down but when you get close to an enemy the tunes go to an entire different level and really hype you up. The only battles where the tunes don't suit you are facing darknuts.
Links chants can get a bit annoying but he actually says something in this game. "Come on". Thats all Link says and it's a bit pleasing to hear. The sound effects are also greats and higher toned than the Nintendo 64 Zelda's.
Game Play
Well not quite as rememberable as the Nintendo 64 Zelda's but where it makes up in a lack of swimming under water, the almighty water dungeon and Horse back, It makes up in battles and swinging rope to rope. Your sword play is much different and better than any other Zelda. You now do acrobatic type moves when you use your sword and sometimes you sword might light green and you can do a special attack. When this happens you A button on the screen goes spikey. The control layout is basically the same as any other Zelda. A is the action command, B is the sword, you set items to X, Y and Z, R to shield and L to target. Its a bit different cause the Cube control is different to the Nintendo 64. The enemys are more lively now. Slice an enemy from behind and they will jump around cluching there bottom. They can drop there weapons and you can pick them up. You can even break shilds and chop off body armore and helmets. Sometime when Tetra or your boat (called the King of Red Lions)wants to talk to you through this stone you get, the A button goes spikey and the controller vibrates. They will tell you vital information.
Bonuses.
Not much bonuses except that you can chose to complete every miniquest that doesn't need doing, like watering all the deku seed planted aroung on different islands and require a certain type of water and many other things.
Overall.
This is one of the best Zelda games and should definently be considered as a game to get.
