Do not Judge this game just from its prequals, infact you couldn't call the other Resident Evil's prequals. This time there is a new setting, new story and no zombies. What no zombies?, thats right Resident Evil 4 has no zombies but it does have posessed villagers that are smarter and faster than zombies. And the villagers come in greater number than zombies from the previous games. The villagers seem to be posessed by some religous cult but I won't let out on the secret. There are also creatures more frightening than ever before.
The game starts on a cut scene. Initially you think that it's and fmv because the graphics are so damn good. But when you go into gameplay than you realise that those are the graphics used through out the game. You walk into a house and go through and see a villager. He attacks you and you have to kill him. Than all the other villagers come. There has to be a reason your hear and you have to have a name of course. Your name is Leon Kennedy (from Resident Evil 2) and you work for the US secret service. You are under orders to rescue the presidents daughter. You are sent to Europe (I think its Spain because the Villagers speak spanish) to investigate. But before to long you forget about saving Ashley(the presdidents daughter) and running for your life.
Villagers and the religous cult arn't the only enemy's but some huge creatures are also put into the game. These creatures are mainly Bosses and require a strategy to defeat unlike in the other Resident Evil games. These battles rival those in The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker and Metroid Prime.
The Graphics
Holy Jesus Christ!!!. I say this because When I first saw this game I thought it would take a miracle for a this generation console to run it. But some how it does. The graphics are unsurpassed from anygame. Leon's hair flutters in strands when you walk, barely any lines, great partical effects, water effects that rivals Super Mario Sunshine and well its just unbelievable. A couple of faults are that the blood sometimes looks a bit purple but that fits in well with the dark scenery.
Audio
The sound is a definant improvement from the originals. Although it may be hard to tell unless you have a digital surround system, the sound is much more improved. You can now tell if an enemy is behind you and the voice acting is better.
Game Play
One of the major problems with the other Residnt Evil's were there game play. Although Resident Evil 4 still works much the same except with much needed improvement. The camera now follows Leon. You use the control stick to move, tilt forward to move forward, back to move backwards and sideways to go in that direction. Also if you quick move the stick back and press B you turn around. While walking you can press B to start running. You use R to aim your gun. Whats good about this is that the camera moves over your sholder giving you a semi first person mode. You can also press L to bring out a knife to slash open things or as a weapon when your low on bullets. One of the problems is is that you have to go into the menu each time you want to change weapons. You are able to upgrade your weapons. This gives an RPG element to the game. You can upgrade how much ammo the gun can hold to reload speed etc. You can upgrade your weapons through Merchants. Merchants can upgrade, sell and even sell ammo for your weapons as well as health packs etc. To heal yourself you find herbs or buy med packs. To save you have to find a type writer much like the previous Resident Evil's but you don't need a ink ribbon.
The A button is action sensitive. It can be used to shoot and slash(if R and L are pressed) but you can jump out a window if it comes up near the A button. Also there is game play in cut scenes. Often you will have to press buttons to roll at the right time or move the control stick to shake something off you.
Bonuses
Resident Evil 4 is packed with bonuses like merchant quests and new outfits. You also get a score system so you can try to beat your high score.
