Rockstar Games has a knack for creating soul mixed with street vibe in almost all it's games. From GTA to Midnight Club, no one can deny how smooth, polished, and utterly cool rockstar games are. That being said, the latest Midnight Club to arrive comes with the backing of DUB magazine, and it's a keeper.
All parts of this game are extremely polished. Gameplay is just as fast if not faster than ever. Slipstream turbos, turbo boost, and several new special abilities for your car (some that you would never expect) make this round of racing the fastest, most arcadish around, even besting Previous fan favs NFSU 2 and Burnout3. Factor in smooth responsive controls that genuinely feel distinct from vehicle to vehicle and DUB has gameplay to spare.
The graphics are incredibly smooth and fast in DUB. The framerate is around 30fps until you kick in the turbo then it jumps to at least double, perhaps triple the fps. All cars are nicely detailed, but a little bit on the PS2 ish scale. Also when online street traffic is mostly absent, most likely to reserve framrates.
Soundwise, DUB is another notch in Rockstar's belt. Lots of acts ranging from 50 cent, NIN, even new bands like Queens of the Stone Age grace the soundtrack. While sound effects roar and whiz offering some of the best in the genre.
Longevity is usually not a problem in racing games as Sony's GT set a benchmark for that years past. But factor in the DEEP online mode this game offers and you have a winner. Rockstar even added FPS standbys like capture the flag. There is also an option to play with mario kart style power ups, rounding out an excellent online package This game will keep you busy for months.
Gameplay 8 super smooth, great difficulty, lots fun
Graphics 7 smooth framerates, good textures, still suffers the multiplatform blues though
Sounds 10 What should be considered a benchmark on XBOX, its that good, especially considering Forza has no soundtrack.
Online 8 Plenty of modes, mostly lag free, but no street traffic
Overall 8
One of the best XBOX racers, only suffers from multiplatform graphics.
