Being the action/adventure fanatic that I am, I thought this would be a fun title. But after dying so many times because the camera totally screwed me, or I didn't time my jump correctly, or I jumped off a two foot wooden box and got a boo-boo, I think I'm ready to throw in the towel. This game would be so much more fun if Indiana Jones wasn't such a clutzy, old shlub.
Pros:
-The music is awesome. In fact, I have it cranked up higher than all the other sounds in the game.
-The voiceovers are great.
-The scenery is pretty.
-The story is fun and the jokes are amusing.
Cons:
-The controls blow! Perhaps I just really suck (even though I've been a gamer for over 15 years, and platforms are my favorites), but for some reason I really have a problem with making simple jumps off the ledges. I'll elaborate below.
-I hate the way I.J. stands even when motionless. He always has one foot in front of the other, never head on, so he always seems to take two steps for every one. This drives me crazy when trying to balance off a ledge to make a jump.
-Why oh why, when we die do we have to start the entire level over again! I just spent the last hour finally getting through what should have been a 10 minute level. M***** F*****!!! I plummet 100 feet to my death just before I clear the level and boom--there's that dang loading screen. Again. Which brings me to my next point.
-The loading time. Too long. 'Nuff said.
-The graphics. I know this game is a few years old now, but I felt like I was playing a PS1 game on a PS2 system. And this is for XBOX!
I had enemies writhing around on the floor even after their death. Reminded me of a spider with it's leg cut off--you know how the leg still wiggles around on its own for a few minutes? Ok, I know. Moving on...
-The camera. I am hugging a wall on the edge of a cliff, my jump is just a few feet NORTH of me, I turn the camera to look ahead at where I have to go next. Wait! That's East! Turn the camera to face ahead. Wait! That's South! Turn the camera to face ahead. Wait! I'm looking right through my own face! And now MY BODY is facing East! WTF!!!
-I.J. is just getting too old for this. He huffs and puffs like he smokes 2 packs a day, and his bones are as brittle as a cracker. Maybe they are trying to emulate the real Harrison Ford--he's gotta be, like 100 by now.
-I prefer a pause that lets me switch weapons rather than having to go through the whole arsenal in the heat of a battle. Yeah, I know that's not realistic, but it sucks when I end up drinking from my canteen when I was really reaching for my M-16 (or whatever that gun is called--I'm a chick, sue me.)
Besides what's so realistic about needing to shoot an enemy 6 times in the head before he dies (and starts writhing around)?
So I think I'll just resort to using this game as a coaster and move on to Ninja Gaiden Black.
