It's one step forward and two steps back for Neversoft/Activision
Tony Hawks American Wasteland is the 7th Tony Hawk game to span out in the last couple of years. and so far, it's the worst.

The story mode is very decent, to say the least, you start as a runaway skater from the mid-west to the big city of LA, as soon as you get off the bus to LA, you'll be attacked by some locals, afterwords you'll meet a sweet girl named Mindy, who, along with you and her gang, decide to rebuild the local "Skate Ranch." Through out the story you'll find bits and pieces to rebuild the farm, but theres more story to it than that. I don't wanna spoil anything, but I will tell you that the games story is very very short. I beat this game over 5 hours faster than I did THUG 2 the first times around. (Took me about 8 hours to beat THUG 2 if you count the 30 minute breaks.) Another thing to complain about is that the story mode helps you through everything, telling you what to do and how to do it, and the only thing you have to do is time your movements.

The game still has the same formula from the THUG games with a bunch of new moves, it's too bad because with all the new moves the PS2 controller seems all crowded up. (I really don't wanna see the XBOX controls right now.) Many of the new moves really won't be of much use to you when you're thinking of new combos/lines.

The graphics are very much the same as THUG 2, maybe even worse sometimes, with the PS2 I had some choppy textures and chugging gameplay a lot, this is never seen on the XBOX, but the XBOX's controller still can never meet up with the Duel Shock. Anyway, the gaphics aren't much to talk about, it sure as hell no SotC. Move along. I've yet to play online and I doubt if I ever will. Classic mode there, too, but you'd really only play it to unlock the levels for freeskate, really.

This game won't even impress the people new to the Tony Hawk games, and is a big a letdown for many fans of the series (Including me.) Wait until it drops in price, or just rent it. This is NOT worth your 50$
