The FIFA series has taken another step forward, albeit a small one when compared to Konami's Winning Eleven gameplay. This is by far, the best FIFA game I've played in recent years, and I've played them all (unfortunately!). While this game gets some things about the beautiful game right, it still has it's flaws. My biggest gripes are the lack of subs by the CPU and the lack of minor fouls. Fouls are a big part of soccer, and this game doesn't represent that good enough. The only fouls you see are when a player nearly takes the legs off another player, which almost always, by the way, results in a card. So far, though, I'm really enjoying this game, and have had some wonderful matches with it. The goal mouth scrambles can be nerve-racking at times, and the penalty shootouts are the best ever from any soccer sim. Also, the fact that this game supports 720p was a nice surprise that I didn't find out until I had the game in my hands. The only problem with FIFA's graphics is when you get up close and see the player faces leave a lot to be desired and the authentic kits look pretty blurry. But from a distance, the graphics are top notch. I was laso very surprised to see how fast WE moved when I pooped it in after playing FIFA for a few hours, (granted I had switched FIFA to the slow setting, as I feel it gives it a more realistic pace than the default setting) but it made WE seem very fast, and I found myself having to re-adjust! The amin addition I am ecstatic about with this game is the control configurations, and the option to have, virtually, the same exact control scheme as WE - thus making it seamless when switching back and forth between these two great games.
All in all a very fun game, even more fun to play online with respectful opponents, and a nice change of pace from the Winning Eleven series. There is room for both soccer game in my library, being a huge fan of the sport and I suggest the hardcore WE fans at least give this one a rental, it may surprise you a bit as it did myself.
