Septerra Core is a console style RPG that ends up being a lot of fun on the PC. One of the best parts about the game is the storyline. The game universe is really interesting in and of itself. Set on a planet which has rotating world "shells", your charactor Maya starts out investigating some local trouble and is swept into the affairs of powerful nations and eventually must thwart a corrupt lord's bit for power.
To start off with the negative, the game on occasion can get somewhat tedious. There is a lot of combat in this game, which is fun while you try out different tactics, but eventually you end up fighting the same enemies the same way every time. Still, Septerra Core has a really cool spell system, where you can combine different spell cards to make more powerful and unique spells. That alone made all the combat worth it. Also, there is some strategy involved with the charactors, as you have to choose which people you want to have on certain missions. Each of the nine party charactors is unique and that makes combat more interesting later in the game.
Septerra Core is very long, so there is a lot of gameplay for your buck. The story is deep and the charactor interaction is great, as the charactors have a lot of personality. I found Septerra Core to be lots of fun despite its faults, and it is a worthy addition to an RPG collection.
