THE GOOD: From the makers of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus maintains the same high level of artistry and whimsical design that made Ico such a cult favorite. While the PS2 is far from the most graphically powerful system on the market, SotC more than compensates with imaginative level design, remarkably lifelike animation, and beautifully modeled colossi. Actually the colossi are quite awe-inspiring. Their massive size is made abundantly clear as each step these giants take makes the ground shake and dust fly. Controlling you character as he attempts to claw his way up a colossus is easier than it may seem at first glance - when the colossus is relatively still or when you're actively hanging on you can't fall off.
THE BAD: As in Ico(and almost any 3rd person game) the camera can be maddening at times. Until you get used to the changing camera angles and controlling your character the game can be frustrating. Gameplay mainly consists of exploring the largely barren(if beautiful) landscape and taking down the colossi. Some people may be upset at this aspect of the game.
OVERALL: I have the utmost respect and admiration for the artists and programmers of Ico and SotC. Props also given to Sony for supporting games that aren't exactly sure fire commercial hits. If you're looking for something different, something to make you smile in amazement, then this game is a must have. This is the kind of game that gives even the most jaded, burned out gamer reason to pause.
