This is definately one of my favorite games of all time.
What can I say about Prince of Persia: Sands of Time? I absolutely love this game. So let's start with the story. The story is kind of basic, but with a twist. While his father is busy raiding some Sultan's castle, the protaganist (our unnamed "Prince") goes off on his own journey and steals a lovely dagger from the Sultan's castle. Back home, he unwittingly unleashes something called the "Sands of Time" from a huge hourglass when prompted by his Vizier. The sands turn everyone into magical sand monsters, except for, of course, Prince, and the Sultan's daughter, a lovely girl named Farah. So the Prince and Farah team up to work their way through the palace and return the sands to normal.
Gameplay is great. There are so many ways to destroy your sand enemies, and all of them are really beautiful! It really is like a dance. The Prince of Persia series is famous for it's platforming, and even platforming haters might like this one. It's inventive, fun, and fresh.
The graphics are simply blow-you-away. While the Prince, Farah and you're enemies might not always look like something out of the latest DOA, it's okay, because you're surroundings are amazing. Everything is kinda immersed in this ethereal light. Sand falls from mysterious places, glinting in the light, and the palace itself is an amazing work of "architecture".
So here are my cons:
1. The game is WAY too short. It's only about 15 hours, and there really are no sidequests.
2. During differen't stages of the game, the prince will start to loose more and more cloting, until he's down to his balloon pants. Now I'm a girl, and I thought this was a bit stupid. I can see loosing the sleeves, but his armor? Really.
3. The camera angles sometimes drove me crazy, which is bad in a platformer, because you can't see where you're going to jump next. Good thing Prince has that dagger of time, but I would've prefered actually seeing where I was going.
4. The final boss was WAY too easy. I don't mind easy games, but when the game's final boss is easier than the droves of undead sand-creatures you just beat minutes before him, that's totally lame.
Last thought: If you have a Gamecube, GET THE GAMECUBE VERSION!!! I have the sequel for my Playstation, and let me tell you, even though the controls are VERY similar, it just works tons better with a Gamecube controller. Buy the Gamecube version, and if you don't believe me, rent a Playstation or XBox version. If you can, this is one of those games where it's just better on the 'Cube.
I give this game a 9.5. -.5 because of the camera, and that one annoying fight where Farah kept getting cornered and dying. :o(
