Final Fantasy VII is the greatest RPG ever. You don't really need to know more than that but I'll talk about it anyway.
This game is absolutely phenomenal. The sheer size and amount of content will keep any gamer going for a lot of hours, (40+ just to complete. 100+ if you do everything there is to do). It has a fantastic game system with the use of materia that can be linked together on equipment to create brilliant spells and stat upgrades. In fact it has not been bettered in any other RPG that I have played since.
The characters are also some of the best I have seen in an RPG so far. My wife sat and watched quite a lot of the game as I played it and actually cried a bit when one of the characters died and a cut scene played showing them beautifully floating down to the ground. Building up characters is done by winning battles and buying better equipment and if you are patient enough to fight battles over and over you can end up with a formidable team of fighters. The battles are great although sometimes, (not very often though), it can get slightly annoying when the battles keep popping up every few seconds.
The graphics are extremely good considering the epic scale of the world you wander around, and the sound is great, (although more modern RPG's are better in that department).
The final battle is an epic fight that puts a lot of other games to shame. The first time I beat it, it took me about 45 minutes just for that last battle.
It really is an amazing game that I don't think will be bettered for a long time.
