Golden Sun is the best RPG on the tiny GBA and I find it quite impressive just how much has been squished into this game. Whilst it is not nearly as huge as the major players in this genre, such as Final Fantasy VII, it still has enough content to last quite a long time. You won't be finishing this in just a few hours. It looks no different to most other RPG's of it's type with cutesy little characters wandering around towns and cities that are scattered around a world map. Along the way you meet various people who may help or hinder you, and occasionally join your party. The character statistics system is not really any different to a lot of other games either. You fight battles, earn experience points, and at set marks your strength, magic, health etc… are increased. There really isn't anything innovative here. It's just a really good game with characters that are likeable and a reasonably good story to follow. The cut scenes for the story can be a bit long winded sometimes… sorry I'll re-word that… they can be extremely long winded sometimes. But this is a minor problem that doesn't spoil the game. The only other problem that I found was that the random battles that pop up can get a bit tedious. There is not a massive variety of monsters and the same creatures appear almost from start to finish instead of being gradually introduced throughout the game.
It's small flaws aside though, this is an excellent game… especially on the GBA.
