Hooray, a Tomb Raider game on the PSP. At last you can hold Lara in those sweaty palms of yours, pressing her buttons to your hearts content.
And it's actually pretty good... apart from one major issue.
For a start the whole game looks and sounds fantastic, (yes, Lara does look even better than ever). The scenery, environments, lighting and sound effects all go together to make an atmospheric setting. The surroundings feel huge with towering cliffs, enormous statues and skyscraper buildings dwarfing our little Lara. And, for those that are interested, Lara wanders around in a range of outfits that make her look as hot as ever.
But puzzles and action are what Tomb Raider games are about isn't it? Not scantily clad heroine's leaping around looking sexy... Isn't it?.. Well, for some of us it is anyway. And the puzzles and action are there… just not to the level of difficulty of previous TR games. It shouldn't take long for TR veterans to work out the puzzles, and even newcomers might not find them too difficult. Once completed though you can always go back through the levels in an attempt to find all the hidden bonuses. Some of these are very difficult to find and certainly add to the longevity of the game.
This really would be an absolutely cracking game if it wasn't for one extremely annoying problem. The controls are rubbish. Eventually you can almost get used to them for the general leaping around. However, when it comes to fighting end of level bad guys I found the controls were the main thing causing me to have to retry over and over again.
There's not really anything revolutionary in this game but anyone who wants to raid Lara Crofts tombs should like it... once they've got the hang of the controls that is.
