Resident Evil 2 was mediocre at best. While it may have been an awesome facet of the N64, the rerelease of the game has yielded almost no improvements control or graphic-wise. Also, there are apparent bugs in this game. Still, though, it was a decent game at the time of its GC release, but Resident Evil 4 changed all that. RE4 was like the typical game in a series that almost deters gamers from playing other games in the series simply because it's really awesome (like Battlefield 2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory). Thus, RE2's purpose is made even further murkier. The typical bad aiming scheme is present, and since the ammo is more limited in this game than most of the others, RE2 becomes even more annoying. Also, one may realize, during playing the game, that the game could be a lot cooler if someone had actually put some time into fixing this game up instead of quickly rehashing it without regard to the gameplay aspect. The thing that really makes me sad is the fact that the Gamecube is a powerful system, and could have easily rendered good graphics, like those beautiful ones in RE0 and RE. These graphics are so bad that many gamers will be turned off by them immediately, and thus ignore the game completely. Those daring enough to play it for a while and maybe even buy it will find that the characters turn way too slowly, the auto-aim is awful, the voiceovers are cheesy-sounding (except for the cutscenes, which look and sound decent) and the weapons are rather boring and weak. All of this culminates in an incredibly lackluster experience; my advice is to lay of this one, unless you can get it for $20/$25, and instead pick up the first two Resident Evil games (RE and RE0), RE 3, or the masterpiece of this series, Resident Evil 4.
