Some would call it the "spiritual" successor to Master of Orion 2, the game that picks up where Master of Orion 3 never could. Is it? I'd say it's a resounding "YES!".
Strategy games have long been the province of spreadsheets, ugly graphics, spreadsheets and the dreaded "One more turn syndrome". GalCiv2 makes an organised assault on all 3 preconceptions - unfortunately, it still suffers from One more turn syndrome (or should that be "one more turn syndrome, oh my god its light outside?").
Beautiful, scalable graphics. Animations and full motion video that would inspire awe even in fans of games such as Fear and Far Cry, and a system that doesn't tax you with micromanagement - even in the endgame with 10+ planets under your control.
And thats not even considering the Ship builder (amazing feature), the pretty combat that far surpasses Master of Orion 2 or 3, and the character each of the races as spun out to the player in the story mode.
Did I say "Spiritual" successor? It doesn't succeed, it surpasses MoO2 in *every way*. Like 4x Games? get GalCiv2.
