The moment I popped Burnout Legends into my PSP I was amazed as to how they managed to make it as powerful and fun as the console versions. The graphics have been sacrificed from 'beautiful' to just 'smooth' but the speed that the series has been known for has not hitched one bit. Although some parts of the tracks are really awkward (cue small gaps that if you're not concentrating hard enough, will result in an instand crash), they do encourage reckless and agressive driving.
And boy, is it fun to drive dangerously and aggresively. Ramming your opponents into walls and cars whilst avoiding so yourself is a thrill unlike any other. Sure, the graphics aren't as shiny as Ridge Racer's but when you rarely get a hitch in the framerate whilst going 200mph you can't complain. If you've played the first three Burnouts before you'll know how the levels inside and out.
Sound-wise, all the crunch and crash sound effects are there, all sounding as meaty as they've ever been. The EA Trax are back though, using most songs from Burnout Revenge. I'll tell you now, if you don't like Punk/Emo music, you won't enjoy the music. It's times like these when you wish all PSP games took advantage of the Memory Stick and played your own song. Maybe next time, eh?
The career mode is lengthy, with plenty of incentive to get every last Gold Medal, Signature Takedown and Headline, mainly in the form of faster, better cars. The Crash mode is mainly recycled from most of Burnout 3's minus the multipliers and it's still as fun as it's ever been, but seeing loads of wrecked cars seriously hurt the framerate, but at least it's there. There is also incentive to engage in up to 6 Player Wi-Fi multiplayer battles. If you want to get all the cars, you need to find some people and beat them for the car you're after. Game Sharing is alright, but it takes ages to upload onto your friend's PSP so it's not much encouragement for him to go buy it if it takes that long to get in the game. Luckily, the load times never exceed beyond tediously infuriating.
Burnout Legends all in all is a great racing game that fits perfectly on PSP. The music may not be to your taste, the graphics may not be as excellent as the console versions, the Crash Mode may stutter under heavy traffic, but those things don't spoil what is a fast, engaging and thrilling racer that everyone should have in their PSP library.
