The GameCube, unfortunately, has to rely on it's exclusive for GameCube titles. So, skipping any Nintendo 64 release, Metroid has been revived. For Metroid fans, this was an extremely joyous moment when announced, although, they worried about translating from 2D to 3D. Would it be able to keep the Metroid style? Yes, it did.
Graphics here are pure next generation. If you've seen PS3 games yet, this is just as good as those. Fire and lava isn't quite as good, although this is truly as good as GameCube games get. They even have all those touches of realism. From fog, rain, and such on your visor, to the steaming of your arm cannon. I guess it is gory in a way when some enemies blow up, though it isn't intense.
Music fits the setting fairly well. Bosses even have their own themes. You have the sci-fi sounds of shooting and all the little weird things making noise.
This is an adventure game. So, that there explains a lot. It involves exploration through several huge, diverse places, scanning for your log book, and combat. The game gives you objectives and tells you where to go and marks it with a question mark on the map. This is good, so you're not cluelessly running around trying to find what you're looking for. Enemies are unique and so diverse, appearance and defense techniques, it's best to scan them since there are a ton of different enemies here. It has a reasonable difficulty level so you aren't shouting the game, nor falling asleep because it's too easy.
This is the best series on GameCube, so why not try it?
