Overall: (4/10) Complete garbage. Resident Evil comes to the XBox 360 minus a storyline and with seemingly worse controls than ever. Lack of any save functionality short of finding a restroom or other save point makes for some very frustrating experiences (WHY MUST SAVING THE GAME BE A GAMEPLAY MECHANIC?).
Gameplay: (3/10) If you're a fan of Resident Evil, you should get this game. If you hate Resident Evil, you will hate this (I did). Only difference is that it's more "sandbox" than storyline; you basically just kill tons of zombies and take pictures or do whatever you want, but there are scoops (read: sidequests) you can complete to gain extra Prestige Points as well as cases (read: quest chains) that you can solve which make up the main story (read: main questline).
Graphics: (8/10) Very good generally, with a ton of zombies on-screen and very detailed shops and things in the mall, but there is some bad pixelation up close when zoomed in with the camera or weapons.
Sound: (7/10) Also very good, with lots of moans and groans and things going on, plus a lot of shuffling feet to let you know where the zombies are. Voice acting is pretty terrible, though part of the problem is that the animations of the characters have that ridiculous Anime-style gesticulation, which makes the voices seem strangely calm and detached by comparison. Generally the voices just don't seem to synch with what's going on in the cutscenes.
Control: (0/10) Truly terrible. Resident Evil had about the worst control scheme of any game ever made. They've helped that a bit by making the perspective a 3rd person "chase" camera rather than the old fixed cameras, but made it worse by leaving too great a pause between the time a player holds the aim button for a weapon and the time when they can actually start moving the joystick to aim. Otherwise, they've completely ignored everything other developers have done with the 360 controllers and basically just ported the old Resident Evil controls over. At least you can jump in this game, and jump you will.
Pros:
*Killing zombies is fun.
*Walking on zombies heads is fun.
*Stuffing things in zombies mouths is fun.
*Using various everyday items as weapons is fun.
*Stealing stuff from malls is fun.
*Free-roam style is fun.
*Killing zombies is fun!
Cons:
*Save system is ATROCIOUS. There are no auto-saves, even in major battles, even if you have to fight several major battles in a row. You must find a restroom or some other save point. At least there's no damned ink ribbon required.
*Controls are probably the worst of any 360 game you have yet played.
*Time limits are not fun!
*Escorting helpless and seemingly-labotomized NPC's is not fun!
*Load times are not fun. I haven't seen this many load screens in a half hour since Resident Evil... on the original Playstation. At least they aren't too long.
*Cross-dressing is just wrong.
*Characters are too stupid; the game is obviously not meant to be taken seriously at all.
Summary: Basically a Resident Evil sequel, with more destroying of zombies with random weapons and less storyline, and a MMORPGish mission style of play. Fans of Resident Evil will get a kick out of this game, people who hated Resident Evil will hate this, and others will probably enjoy it for a bit but either give up or get bored quickly.
