Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is Naughty Dog's new platformer. The story goes as follow. You and your buddy Daxter venture off to an island where you uncover the plans of 2 evil masterminds ready to take over the world. While searching the island Dazter falls into a giant pool of dark echo turning him into ottsel. Now you must help turn your friend back to normal and help save the fate of the world.
Jak and Daxter is a wonderful simple platformer. It is what it is, a platformer and it's good at just being that. The game consists of you running around collecting precursor orbs and power orbs to advance to new levels in the game. Each area in the game has a total of eight precursor power orbs, and there are many areas to a level so there are tons of quests to go on to find these. In each level there is a certain quota of these orbs you must reach to perform a certain task to go on to the next level. The core gameplay is solid it is probably one of the best platformers for the PS2 . There is not much to the game other than running and jumping, attacking enemies with your punches and air attacks. There are some vehicles you can ride around in.
On the downside doing the same thing over and over again can get a little boring. Even with all the different mission types you can get that feel like you've done this somewhere else but in a different theme. Also some of the jumps you have to make in the game can be a little frustrating.
Other than that Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is wonderful platformer. It's simple yet challenging enough for first comers and more experienced gamers. There is quite a bit of variety and the game has is own quirky sense of humor. The only downside is that on a occasion the platforming can get a little frustrating and it may get a little repetitive with the missions. Other than that this s great game
