You are an elite republic commando, a clone. You have been created to fight; you are part of an elite group known as the Delta Squad. You are fighting in the early part of the clone wars, and must take down the federation and all who oppose you. No one can stop you and your squad, you are the elite you are a republic commando.
Graphics/Voice Over/ Sound
Wow this game is amazing; there is not a default in this category. The graphics have to the best I have ever seen on a console. Everything is so detailed and pretty, and I like pretty things. You are immersed in this game from the very beginning, and until the very end. The voices are also nicely done, you get the feeling that you know your squad, and every member has their own personality you grow to like or hate.
There is also some humor in there that will give a little smile or two. The voices are crystal clear even though they have the robotic kind of sound. The sound is amazing, from the explosions around you to the fighters flying overhead. The gun sounds are amazing to; its fun to hear the sound of your bullets rip through the remains of a native or a super droid. There is also the nice thud sound when you whack an enemy with the butt of your gun or slice up someone with your wrist blade.
Game Play
This game is the most fun I have ever had on the X-Box so far, and in my opinion is the best first person shooter for this console. Let me start its labeled tactical first person shooter, and yeas it is exactly that. Its not like SOCOM or Ghost Recon tactical, but you can command your commandos to snipe, blow and breach doors and slice through computers to get to the next area. You dont go alone; as you are apart of the Delta Squad you have other members to help you along this journey. You have 3 commandos to command each with their own special ability and personality. Your other commandos come in handy through out your journey because they can blow open doors, hack into computers, diffuse bombs they can do practically anything. A cool feature is that when you die you can be brought back to life. If you die and your squad mates didnt die you can call them to revive you and you can do the same for them.
Throughout the levels there are tons of places to set up your tactics, and its simple to place your squad mates. All you do is look for an overturned box or some sort of cover and if there is a green hologram then you can place a member there to do one of many things, sniper, grenade cover, anti-armor attacks, set bombs, and man turrets. There is probably an endless amount of strategy you can do with just finding the best way to approach a situation.
There are 3 levels throughout the game, Geanosa (some desert place), Trade Ship and the Wookie homeland. They are at an ok length and they are all broken up into a variety of different missions. Missions range from, taking out a droid factory, assassinations, protecting crates, and search and rescues. There are your basic enemies as well, there are droids (practically anything from the movies), geanosians (flying things) and slavers. They do kind of get boring fighting the same enemy over and over again but the action makes up for that. Which leads to the weapons, you start out with 2 basic weapons a pistol and a rifle. What is nice about these 2 weapons is that the pistol has unlimited ammo (it just needs to charge with so many shots) and the rifle suffices for 3 weapons at once. Through out the game you gain upgrades for the riffle like anti armor attachments and sniper rifle attachments. So this eliminates the clutter of other weapons, not to say there aren't other weapons there are. Its just the basics like shotgun, machine guns and there are wookie bow casters and there are some others, there are also a variety of grenades. Your weapons are also nicely mapped to the D-Pad so its quick and easy. The only problem is that you never feel like there is enough ammo for the anti armor and sniper riffle. So when you need to use them becomes very critical and when you need them you are usually out of ammo. This becomes very frustrating in certain situations with certain enemies. You could be surrounded and you may need a anti armor shell to eliminate enemies at once but you don't have that type of ammo. Another problem is that your squad mates sometimes aren't very good at taking orders, sometimes when you order them to replenish there health they will walk out right into open fire and die which defies the whole point of getting health. Also they can run ahead of you and you will probably lose them and they will get lost and you wont be able to find them. One last complaint is that the game is really short.
Overall
Star Wars Republic Commando is a solid first person shooter/experience. There is tons of action, commanding a squad in the Star Wars universe is fun, tons of strategic movements, good to look at it, and sense of humor. The real only complaints I have are that the game is too short, and some frustrating moments. Other than that the game is almost perfect and is a must own.
