Story

As a covert operative of the CIA, Nina Williams enters an underground fighting tournament to track an underworld organization called Kometa. Functioning as the sweeper of her cell Nina finds herself tracking a stolen weapon but in doing so reveals a conspiracy. In order to track down this weapon Nina must face the Kometa organization and her past to do so.

Graphics/Voice Over/Sound

The graphics in the game are nicely done, especially in the first level in the pool area. Other places fair just as well though youre not outside that much youre mostly inside a building. The Voice Over in the game is very cheesy half the dialogue I wish I could explain what was going I cant. There are some weird hand gestures and other effects that I was ultimately confused by. The sound is ok too, its nothing great it just fits the game well enough so its not too bothersome.
I found the kicking and punching noises funny when you made contact with the enemy, it sounds like those old Kung Fu movies where it sounds as if youre hitting a bag of sand or something.. Other than the graphics everything here is sub pare.

Game play

Alright to start Death by Degrees is a very repetitive game. Heres the formula: run around, go through door, fight enemies, run around go through door, find fingerprint, fight enemies, run around, find fingerprint. And repeat. Boy does it got old, boring and annoying real quick. The saving grace to all this is the actual fighting you do. The fighting plays out like this you fight, dodge and block with only the two analog sticks. The right analog stick serves as your attack/block function, all you do to attack is flick the stick in the direction of where you want to attack and if you flick it fast enough in the same direction you can pull of some combos. To block all you do is flick slightly in the direction you are being attacked. The left analog stick serves as your dodge/ run feature. To dodge works the same way to attack just flick it in whatever direction and you dodge. Depending on your flick though you can do back flips flying cartwheels and depending on if youre near a wall or not you can wall walk and stuff.
Like I said the fighting is the best part there are so many cool moves you can pull off. You can break necks, drop kicks and scissor kicks and things just get better with the ninja strike. Yes the ninja strike happens when you fill up your focus meter and when youre facing an enemy hold the L2 button and flick the right analog stick at an enemy and youll enter critical strike mode. There you can target critical body parts and organs for instant kills.
But like all good things there is a downside, the critical strike get old real fast. Its nice to be able to do this but you go through the same motions and attack the same parts over and over again. Lets not talk about the hit detection, sometimes youll hit the an enemies leg and somehow by a miracle youll hit is head and kill me. Yeah I dont know how but thats how it works. Also the whole fingerprint finding gets really annoying; in fact mostly 90f your mission revolves around finding fingerprints and opening lockers. With this comes numerous hours of backtracking and on top of that comes load times. Its like a series of unwanted problems, because everyone room you enter there is a load time and these load times just make things longer and tiring.

Overall

All in all Death By Degrees is an average game. The fighting is fun and fast, there is quite a bit of challenge, and the game looks good. But the game is seriously dragged down by the bland missions, repetitiveness, back tracking, and obnoxious load times. If you truly need something to waste time this game can suffice, if you need a game just to play until the next big game release Death By Degrees is fun enough to keep you interested.
