Having played the Age of Empires on the PC, I was curious to see how well Ensemble could transfer this game to the DS. I was not disappointed. The game is pared down from the PC version, of course, but in good ways.
First, the units on the playfield represent groups, and when they battle, there is a nice little animation that plays. I can readily see the relationships between the various units, making strategy formulation very easy and very fun.
There are a few downers, though. There are times when trying to touch a unit in a large crowd becomes a little frustrating... thank goodness for the ability to activate units via the buttons.
Overall, I love this game... its addictive, very fun and work every penny of the $20 I paid.
