Final Fantasy VII was extremely revolutionary for its time and, in many cases, it remains to be revolutionary compared to the games that have come out since its release. It was the first game to have well-developed CG movies, the first game to have 3 discs worth of gameplay, the first game to have such an epic soundtrack, and the first game to have such a well-developed, epic plot.
The battle system in this game is easy to use, and is set up in a way that is superior, and much less annoying than other RPGs and other games in the Final Fantasy series. The gameplay is highly addictive, enjoyable the entire way through, and can last as long as you want it to last. It gives you the strange urge to make your characters as good as they possibly can be so you end up putting a lot of work into leveling up. Also, there is a high degree of challenge that will meet those who try to unlock all of the secrets of the game.
One of the major strengths of the game is in the character development. For a video game, Final Fantasy VII gives you a unique experience where you really get a feel for the past situations that each character has been through and why they are the way they are now. Also, the antagonist of the game, Sephiroth, may very well be the coolest bad guy ever!
The only disappointing part of this game is when it is over and you want to keep playing. Over the years I have played nearly every major title on NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Playstation, and Playstation 2, and nothing compares to this game. If you don't own this game, get it before you miss out on what is the flagship of the Final Fantasy series, and may truly be the pinnacle of video gaming....
