If I hadn't had Gamefly, I would probably have never given Red Steel a shot. I had heard from numerous reviewers how buggy the game was, but the lack of title right now for the Wii brought Red Steel to my door.

I have grown to disregard most bigtime game reviewers, but this time, most of those guys got it right. This game is completely buggy and the controls seem to get worse as the game progresses.

The game tricks you because the first level runs pretty smooth and after that, glitches and slow downs and frame rate problems seem to become more abundant.

The graphics are X-box/PS2 level at best and the cut scenes are terribly boring and way too long. After playing through almost the entire game, I really can't understand why anyone would like this game if they have ever played a FPS before.

Red Steel was, in my opinion, shuffled together to release at launch come heck or high water. They just had to get that "first FPS from the ground up on Wii" thing going. Well, I've played several games for the Wii now, and I can tell you that the FPS controls in Elebits and Rayman put Red Steel to shame in every way.

Sword fighting gets lamer as the game progresses. You might find youself trying to learn new moves, and the moves just not working. Detection is probably the worst I've ever played of any FPS as well.

Overall, just a huge disappointment. This game has sold because it was the first designed FPS from the ground up on Wii. However, if I was Nintendo, I would be embarassed or afraid that the popularity of this game could put a black eye on FPS freaks who want a new experience.

It reminded me of one of the many reasons I got rid of my XBOX360. There were too many games with bugs, glitches and control problems. If Nintendo wants to be king again, they need to make sure that their play control is top notch. That's what Nintendo has been known for in the past, which is why it is so sad that this game's play control stinks.

Some other notes about the game. The voice acting is unoriginal, the sensitivity controls are a joke, there is a good chance you will get stuck inside levels, and they don't allow you to skip cutscenes. A lot of times you'll enter a room and your health bar goes way down. That's fine, but there isn't a bad guy anywhere to be found. A lot of times you die before you can even get your bearings. There are little red arrows that come up to supposedly tell you where the guys are shooting from, but take my advice and ignore those arrows. They are wrong and terribly confusing most of the time.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend not buying or renting this game. It sounds like Call of Duty 3 is pretty good and there will be many more FPS (hopefully) that come out for the Wii. After trying FPS controls out on Rayman and Elebits, I definitely think the Wii can truly enhance first person shooters and when a game company actually spends some time finishing their game, we might see the first original FPS for the Wii.
