n Saints Row, the streets of Stilwater are yours for the taking. Early in the game your character joins the 3rd Street Saints, a gang in relative disrepair. As you progress through the game waging gang warfare, you and the Saints become the rulers of Stilwater.

Saints Row provides a very interesting bit of escapist entertainment. There are actions the main character in the title perform that no one should ever want to undertake in real life. With that in mind, it is just a game and whole lot of fun at that.

The main story, which finds you joining characters such as Julius (the 3rd Street gang leader) as well as cast of other characters, is truly entertaining. Your character's rise to power is chronicled by a series of missions heading against rival gangs in the Stilwater area. The stories for each of the gangs varies of course, but they also differ in their specializations of sorts. The Carnales deal largely with drugs and have dealings with a Colombian smuggler, while the Westside Rollerz are heavily involved with street racing. The Vice Kings have a cover in the music industry. As you play through the story, you will be introduced to the gang leaders and other various members. Throughout the story, you'll also come across some pretty decent voice acting as well as humorous, well written dialog.

Before having to complete the main story of the game, there are a number of "Activities" or mini games that you may wish to complete. These include Snatch (recruit hos for pimps), Escort (drive around prostitutes with clients in the back seat of a car, evade paparazzi) and Chop Shop (steal cars, modify, bring to dealer) among others. Some of the mini games are less challenging than others, but they all provide an entertaining aspect as well as up the overall replay value of the game to a degree.

The graphics and sound in the game are fairly solid elements. There are some really nice lighting elements present and sound effects used for weaponry and vehicles are also quite good. For an action game of this type, the physics in the game are also worthy of mention as bodies tend to flop around quite nicely when flung from vehicles or nearby explosions.

While Saints Row is the first title of its sort that I've given an actual play-through, I found the experience very enjoyable. There's a lot that this game has to offer with the mini games, story and online play. And despite a rather disappointing finale, I could see myself venturing back to Stilwater very soon.
