Goldeneye set the tone, and Perfect Dark took the FPS genre to the next level. I don't think that any copycats have matched Goldeneye or Perfect Dark in terms of discrete single player missions. This includes the EA Bond games, Turok, or even Timesplitters. The levels are very well done and should be looked at by any aspiring level developers.
The multiplayer is also top notch. I still haven't seen a console game with as many options that are as easy to access as Perfect Dark has. The bots are exciting and allow you to get a lot of play out of the game without having to deal with your friends ;)
Unfortunately, the power of the N64 isn't strong enough to handle everything that the developers had in mind. Also, a few of the graphic effects are confusing and only serve to remove your level of immersion from the game.
Pros:
Unmatched single-player missions;
Awesome multiplayer;
Great control;
Cons:
Framerate issues;
Requires expansion pack;
An *extremely* hard 'hard mode'
