MAN.....this game surprised the heck out of me!

After reading the lousy reviews for this game I looked it over it when making my xmas purchases. Boy do I regret that! This has easily become my favorite game on the wii, offering TONS of replay value and more unlockables than you could possibly get without a guide, PLUS awesome controls, beautifull graphics and excellent audio. I have no idea who reviewed this game, but they obviously were missing a few bolts when they did it!

STORY:

You start the game with an exciting FMV that leads to you playing with an initial team of Captain America, Spiderman, Wolverine, and Thor. The Masters Of Evil have banded together and are hatching some typed of mysterious plan. Yes, it may sound cliche but the story reeled me in quickly, because of the truly excellent way they present it. Each segment of the story in an ACT. Each ACT has it's own base you operate out of. In between missions, you can conversate with people all over the base, getting additional side quests, and learning back history about the charachters, their origins, motives, relationships, etc.. It's awesome! When I saw "action-rpg" I immediately thought "yah right". Let me be the first to tell you, this game has STRONG rpg influences. I absolutely LOVE the story so far.

GRAPHICS:

Beautifull! The lighting effects are great, and the textures very smooth. I haven't played a game this pretty in a long time that could have 40+ enemies on screen (yes!) at one time with multiple effects, explosions simultaneously all while not losing any framerate at all! astounding! And don't get me started on all the unique powers your players have. With over 100 unique special powers and effects, you can believe that the battles heat up quick!

SOUND:

You know the music is good when you unconsciously start humming it all the time. I love the "announcer" type congratulations "awesome!" "wow!" and stuff like that when you perform special team moves and finishing blows. Plus, the comments from enemies are many, varied, and oftentimes hilarious. Wait until you kill one of the evil clowns, only to hear him groan "I only wanted to make you laugh"...it will! :)

CONTROL:

This is where this title REALLY shines for the Wii console. MAN the controls are just phenomenal. Here is my control set up.

Nunchuk:

Analog to move.

C button to JUMP

Z button to open doors, initiate conversation, etc..

Tilting the nunchuk left and right will rotate the map around left and right. Yes, it IS as awesome as it sounds. The most fluid way to rotate a game screen that I have ever encounterd. You can also jerk the nuncuk to the left or right to either do a DODGING ROLL, or ACTIVATE doors and conversations.

WIIMOTE:

Directional Pad: each direction selects a different party member instantly.

A button: attack, hold down to charge

B button: use for specials. For example, holding the B button and slicing downwards while playing as Iron Man will cause him to slam his hands into the ground, sending out bioelectric shocks. Then raising the wiimote and shaking it will cause secondary explosions. Also with Iron Man (my favorite), holding the B button then slicing upwards will charge the uppercut attack. Release B and punch upwards to really feel like you are in the game. It's amazingly fun!

1: brings up map
2: drops carried weapons (or Z)
-: opens up team screen
+: opens up options/objectives screen

The controls in this game are really fundamentally brilliant and intuitive. Play this game for 2 hours then you will understand.

REPLAYABILITY:

through the roof! You have LOADS of goodies hidden through the levels. Some examples are:

Action Figures: Collect hiddien action figures of certain characters to unlock them as playable

Concept Art: over 50 pieces of concept art that are unlocked individually from finding "sketch books" hidden in levels

Simulation Discs: Easily my favorite. These are missions for each playable character that recreate specific, real, comic issues. You get the cover of the original comic, the story explained, then you play it out. Awesome. not to mention special rewards for completing the missions in specific time restraints and attaining points goals.

SUMMARY:

I could go on and on and on about how awesome this game is. The bottom line is this.

If you like action games, BUY IT.

If you like RPG's. BUY IT.

If you like Comic Books. BUY IT.

Pretty much...if you like videogames, BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT.

9/10 - FINAL SCORE
