Considering the context in which this game was released (between FFII and FFIII) it definitely wasn't the most artistic game. I have to say it has some serious flaws and inconsistencies with the other Final Fantasies (i.e. save everywhere, if you die in battle you can redo it -- but the magic you used in the battle is not recovered).
I found the music to be a serious drive for this game -- made up for a lot of the flaws. Another plus very little time was spent chatting to people in the world. Serious contrasts to the newer FF's where one has to do some serious click-click for about 10-30 minutes. Let's face it, the game was simply a game and in many cases that's all a gamer wants. I still pick it up now and then, I really like the battle music, which in a game like this you hear over and over again but the battle music is definitely replayable. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, despite any of the game's flaws.
