i played tony hawk 1 on the psx. and never tried tony hawk 2. I did however buy tony hawk advance for the gba and was sorely dissapointed. Since i missed out on tony hawk 2 and couldnt get into tony hawk advance. I pretty much missed the whole series. I never got good at the combos that tony hawk is famous for either. But after hearing nothing but kudos for thps3, I read review after review that said, "if you ever like a tony hawk game even just a little, then you will love this". So i gave it a chance, i traded DMC for THPS3, it was easy to get into after getting over the fast pace of the action. Now i am stringing together 60 to 70 thousand point combos on my 2nd day with the game. Its really fun!! I think tony hawk advance was just an abberation, too small a screen and hand cramps and stuff. I was a fool to miss tony hawk 2. But its ok cause i made it all back up with tony hawk 3. The controls are spot on, the graphics are nice. Its a little GTA3 with all the missions along with some SSX for the tricks, but it is still in a class of its own. Just the simple act of stringing to gether limitless combos is enough to keep you addicted. The only area that suffers is the music, too loud and annoying, same thing that sonic adventure series suffered. However, i want to give the game an 11 for the game play alone, So even subtracting 1 for the music, it still gets a 10!
