If you enjoy watching your players drop pass after pass, while the computer completes pass after pass, then get this game.  If you dont', read on.  As brilliant as NCAA College Football was from EA Sports, Madden 2002 is the complete opposite.  The gameplay from last year returns but with some major flaws.  The computer decides when you will catch a pass or not.  It doesn't matter that you're wide open.  It doesn't matter if you're using Randy Moss, Chris Cart, Jerry Rice or any other big name reciever in the game.  It seems that the computer uses some weird formula to decide when every pass is complete.  If you're playing as the Browns and you're up against the Tennesee Titans who are rated higher than you in just about every category it doesn't matter if your receivers are wide open.  You will more than likely drop more passes than you catch.  I'm not referring to the intances when you are covered by defenders either.  There's a reason the programmers made the passing game so "iffy", which brings me to my next part of the game.  Playing defense is hit and miss at best.  Since the control over your defensive backs is useless they had to balance out the game or every pass would be a completion.  You're better off letting the computer attempt to deflect passes for you becuase if you miss, and you WILL miss it usually means a certain touchdown for the opposition as your defensive back flails away at thin air.  In the real NFL when you are being blocked by a defender and the ball player runs past you you're able to shed that block and attempt to make a play.  Not so in this game, as you appear to be velcro strapped to the person blocking you.  I did notice that the computer has no problem shedding the blacks and making the play.  The commentary is way off!  They tried to fill the commentary with general statements that fit just about any scenario but even this is wacky.  Example: After the first play of the game Pat remarks that the ball carrier is having a great game.  Huh? This happens quite a bit.  Graphics are the same as last year.  If you must have the most current rosters in your football game then get this, but if you can live without that feature and you have last years Madden, save your money for Silent Hill 2.  Jamie.
