I picked up Halo about five years after its release and I wasn't sure what to expect. The game has been hyped beyond belief and almost has a legendary status among gamers. I've typically found first-person shooters on consoles to be harder to control and lacking of the story and depth that many of their PC counterparts exhibit. Well, I have to admit that I was pretty blown-away by Halo! It's not that it introduces much new to the genre, but the story, control, enemies and pacing just make it an incredible experience from start to finish. The recharging shields are a very nice touch that removes the need to constantly hunt down medi-packs and the presentation of the game as a whole just take it to a new level of gaming.
If I had to nit-pick, I'd mention that some of the levels featured very repetitive hallways and corridors. You'll find yourself traversing very similar ground throughout many of the indoor levels. That aside, Halo is a top-notch game from head to toe and features some very memorable moments in gaming for me. The audio is beautifully pumped in Dolby Digital and really contributes to the game (for those of you with gaming configurations where you can enjoy it) and the frame-rate, graphics and animations all suit which will long be considered one of the best first-person shooters of all-time.
If you're like me and haven't played this one yet then do yourself a favour and pick it up in the bargain bit at your local store. You certainly won't regret it!
