Being that I bought my PS2 for one reason and one reason only originally (and this game was it).. I had some very high hopes for this game.. and for the most part I wasn't disappointed.
There were some "nuances" that hurt this game (such as highly repetitive commentary, and even commentary that was totally wrong at times... [imagine my surprise hearing Madden talk about the passing play I just performed when I broke a 20 yard run?]).
In addition, there were some serious flaws in the replays (such as players running through players, and heavy stuttering at times). But as for the game itself, it was very smooth and well done. (Although once again, EA has failed to reasonably deliver on offensive/defensive line performances).
The controls are complicated but not unlearnable, and with the adjustable levels, anyone can learn the game in a reasonable amount of time. And along with Madden Cards and the "practice modes" you'll find yourself reasonable entertained for quite some time.
For sports fans, Madden2k2 is a definite must get..
