The Resident Evil series is undoubtedly the inventor and king of the Survival Horror genre. All other games to this point have been only been cheap imitations of RE. Enter Silicon Knights and Eternal Darkness, which perfectly blends in action and a finely tuned story to the mix, creating what this reviewer can only hope becomes a franchise. This Lovecraftian tale of a murdered Grandfather and his inheritance is not without it's confusing points, but overall the thread of the story remains strong to the finale. As she reads through the Tomb of Eternal Darkness (can we just call this thing the Necronomicon already?) Alexandria Roivas not only learns about mankinds endless struggle with the forces of evil throughout time, she also learns all the spells and skills she needs to fight it as well. The "Insanity Effects" which occur when your sanity meter is low is much more than a novelty. I suggest you NOT recharge your sanity for a while and really experience what this game can throw at you. They are all very cool and exceptionally inventive, and do well to engross the gamer in the world Alexandria is struggling to save.
This game is highly recommended to all survival horror fans, game fans, Gamecube owners and oh, everyone else too.
