I gave this game an 8...but that is only because I think the car graphics and controls are a 12! I do think that the game is far from perfect and there are many things that I hope are corrected when they release GT4.
First the good...the car models, sound and driving controls are as close to reality as possible with a home console video game. Replays are incredible and for the most part it is a very deep and fun game to play.
But then there is the bad...Aside from there being only 1/2 the number of cars from GT2 (and no used cars) and the fact that there are also less tracks, there are other things that were removed from the original Gran Turismo game in GT2 that I hoped would return, but did not. The biggest to me was lap and speed records getting updated while you raced without having to go to a separate mode in order to get these records. At least you don't have to change disks like you did in GT2, but it is takes a lot away from the gameplay to not be able to set new records for each track during an actual race. Another big issue that I have with the game is shadows and tunnels. There are many points on different tracks when you are literaly driving in the dark! I know that the headlights aren't functional on the cars, but there is not much fun in banging into walls or driving off the track because you cannot see where you are going! Lastly, the AI of the cars was supposed to be much improved in GT3, but the CPU cars still all drive the exact same way and rarely get off their racing line.
GT3 is still an very good game and if you love cars it is a must buy, but there is much room for improvement in the details and hopefully GT4 will live up to the billing of the "Real Driving Simulator".
