Having a subtitle that is taken from Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil is the first indication that Xenosaga Episode II is an ambitious work. Episode II picks up the complex tale right where Episode I ends. The cinemas themselves are of a higher quality this time around. Graphics have improved a fair bit and the direction and camera is more focused. The voice overs are average for the most part, the voice acting of secondary characters actually tends to be better than for the main cast. The Battle system has been revamped and is more complex and satisfying. It works essentially the same as Episode I's, but now there is various combos, double techs, (when two characters attack together) as well as a stock option to save attacks, and then use them all together. Using the right combos on the right enemies is key, as each enemy has a key breakzone, that when hit in the correct order causes damage multipliers. Unfortunately the main game is shorter than Episode II, however there is a good amount of side quests. Also, after you beat the game there is several bonus dungeons and bosses that can be taken on. In some ways Episode 2 is a step backwards for the series, however the the complex narrative and interesting characters are back, and really thats the main reason to play it.
