Well, looks like I'll be waiting for Pride FC. UFC Throwdown fails to bring anything new the series, it lacks a lot of depth and really didn't keep my interested.
The graphics are impressive, and the player's movements, are as equally the same. All the real to life fighters look just that (real to life), and the models, and motions are very well done. The blood effects are decent, but I really don't care much about that. The intros are pretty, but it just seems too much like your character is used with a cheap Hollywood blue screne when comes to and enters the octagon. Having said that, I will go back to my previous statement, the graphics are impressive. However, the graphics overshadow the terrible gameplay this game offers.
The gameplay is smooth and uninterrupted by slow down, unfortunately that's about all that will keep you interested (and for a very short time). Basically, you have two punches, two kicks, and two takedowns. Great, sounds good right? Wrong. From the fighters I used, they all felt the same, I couldn't tell the difference between Dan Severn and Tito Ortiz (except in appearance) because they don't offer many different fighting styles (although there is supposedly a vast variety). I played on the default normal difficulty and found myself getting all my opponents to tap out in less than 30 seconds. A simple kick the gut, and they a choke hold did the trick. The create/career mode is extremely week in terms of customizing your character. Basically you choose the fighting style, height, weight and colour of your fighter's costume, nothing eles is customizable; you can't pick and choose items like gloves, clothes, pants, etc. You must choose a pre rendered character. That's not good to me, why do I want a pre-rendered creation that is supposed to me? The career part is rather unentertaining also. You have to spar and beat 5 opponents to get into a tournament, and this gets old, fast. You also must perform moves and task to skill up your fighter, which also gets old, fast. The result, the death of replay value.
The replay value is very low on this game. I beat the UFC Mode in less than ten minutes in the heavyweight division (on the normal setting). The lightweight division took slighty longer, and by slightly I'm talking a matter of mere minutes. I didn't bother with the open weight division, so I can't comment on how long that will take you. The career mode is the same every level you go to. SO what if they give you new moves for the tasks, I hate performing the same tasks over and over again, its boring. The same can be said for sparring mode, YOU MUST beat 5 opponents before you enter a tournament, and when you get to a tournament, it's a joke! Tournaments took me five minutes to beat and then it was back to the grind. I can't stand this game, and I urge everyone to wait for Pride FC.
