Have you ever wanted to be a kind ruler and use politics to extend your civilization? Ever wanted to build a war machine and smash your opponents into the ground? Time to get your people working and researching because its time for Civilization once again, and the 3rd time at that.

Civilization 3 runs on the simple idea of you taking control of one of many rulers, each controling a different race or nationality of people. From there you start building up your civilization by sending your settlers out to found new cities. Your cities produce food to grow, research to discover new technologies, and new to the games, culture to expand your borders. This game adds culture to the mix and as a new way to grow out and take land. If you are bordering anouther civilization and your culture is much greater then their's then there is a chance you can force their people to join your civilization because your culture is superiour.

Besides this addition, the game also brings into acount special resources that you can gather by setting up to build paticular units. For instance, cavalry requires horses, units using iron weapons require iron mines, and so forth. These two are the only real additions to the game, besides new units, technologies, and world wonders. The game remains the same after that, requiring that you win by being the first to research up to build rockets and send the first space ship to alpha centauri, conquring all your opponents, wining a cultural victory, or owning the most amount of land mass.

The game only has a few flaws, as in sub-standard music, and the AI. The AI is not dumb, but it will agrivate you to no earthly end. The game has one major tactic, and that is to help each other to leave you in the dust. The game will constantly trade technologies with each other for nothing, so that one of the computer players can research one branch of technology, and anouther researches anouther branch. Once they have that done, they trade the technologies so they cut down on their advancement time. This is how the computer can spend all it's money on troops and ignore building libraries and spending money on research, but still out pace you in no time flat. Dont try trading with the computer, they will try to give you the buisness. You want one technology from them? Fine, just give up a city, 5 technologies, and all of your money and they MAY give you one tech. The most annoying thing is that the computer will work to build boarders around you as quickly as possible and then contain you in a small tiny spot. This can be a game killer later on when you have no resources.

Taking in the downside, the game is still very fun and very addictive. You will be downloading new maps to play on and trying out all the differen civilizations. Its a very fun game and if you like any of the other civilization games, you will enjoy this one.
