RTS on a massive scale, that is the draw of this game. Taking hints from other RTS's, this game has you playing mission like stages during a time period ranging from the spanish invaders of the Incan empires, to the English settling of the Americas, to the Revolutinary war, to the civil war. What sets this game appart is the massive scale. In other RTS's, one unit usualy represents a larger unit, in this one, one unit is one unit, and you need mass numbers to press an attack. It is truly amazing to see literaly thousands of troops running at each other and charging, or one massive line of red units and anouther massive line of blue lining up with each other and then letting lose with a massive volly of musket fire. Like Reality, muskets take a long time to load, so large numbers are needed so that one line can fire while the other reloads. Indians can be your worst enemy as they can run fast and hit fast by firing one arrow after anouther while your toops wait to reload. This presents a problem, the game has a steep curve. A lot of the time you face indians who have an endless stream of men while you have a set number or are forced to build up supply logistics to make more, and when you have to pay for your troops and make them while your enemy responds endlessly at you even after you distroy their spawn points, it gets hard. Heavy units such as artillery move insanely slow and fire even slower, but can take out huge numbers of enemy units. If you like realistic battles and a build in history lession, this is a game for you. Also, if you think having about 50 or so units fight on the screen and think the battles are whimpy, try sending 10 units of 200 men battalions into battle with this game.
