Now here is a blast from the past.  This game for the SNES is one of the few games to really shine, and its one of the VERY FEW games to come out of American design offices that was not utter bunk.  The game involves a young boy and his dog, who both love watching really bad B rated movies, stumbling across an old mansion that is filled with old tech from the 50's, and accidently getting zapped to a far off world created just for a select 4.  As the boy, you have to fight your way through a world of dinosaurs, roman glatiators, mummies, dragons, armored monsters, and high tech machines in various areas of the world which each focus on a paticular time period.  The battle system is very similar to anouther classic, Secret of Mana, which is not suprizing since both are made by Square Enix (known as Squaresoft at the time).  The game does not have a magic system, Instead using a alchemy system where you combine ingredients togeather to make various effects (Mixing clay and a crystal makes a ball of pain that smacks enemies).  Using a paticular recipie in alchemy enough times will raise it's level, meaning it has a greater effect, as using a weapon enough times raises it's level which lets you use charge attacks.  The game has several things that make it stand out.  For one, since it's made in America, it does better to make the player feel more familiar playing it, jokes that actualy make relevence, plots that wont be to slow or fast for a player, and so forth.  The armor and weapons directly reflect the age you are in, stone age armor can be grass or dino skin, while bronze age armor can be bronze plates or roman armor.  Lastly, its just a fun game to play.  It has everything RPG fans love and it has action to keep it from getting boring.  Its one of the classics in RPG and shows that Japanese game designers are not the only ones who can do a good RPG.
