Is Final Fantasy Tactics too serious for you? Do you hate level caps? Do you think that only a 50 different character classes is just too small? Then this is the game for you! Disgaea is a interesting play on the tactical RPG gener that has been picking up steam for some time now. For one thing, it takes place in the Hell, and you play as a bad guy. The story goes that you are the prince of the underworld and your father has died. Unfortunately, what was suppost to be a simple 10 day nap turned into a 2 year sleep and now that you are awake, every demon around is trying to take YOUR thrown. Its up to you, a few friends you meet along the way, and a small (or large) army of fellow demons to take your title back by force. The game plays in typical tactical RPG style, you move your characters around on a grid feild and kill opponents to get XP. What sets this game appart is the fact that it has a very comic style, cut scenes tend to be silly and plesent to players, so it gets you interested in advancing the plot with it's multable endings. Second is the huge amount of classes. There are an insane amount of different character classes you can get, characters made by acumulating mana (points gained by killing opponents) to make more characters, and a special system is put in so combo attacks can be made if characters with a good link to each other (creator+created=pain). Also, there are no level caps in the game. You can literaly get to level 3000 in the game, and your HP and stats will reflect your level, so power is nearly unlimited. The problem is later on when you make new characters, upping their level is a nightmare, since XP is only awarded when a character lands a killing blow on a monster, and not for individual actions (XP can also be awarded by hitting special damage caps in levels and being awarded items and such for hitting these caps in increasing levels). The game has a way of advancing your character more by asking for advances in the 'dark senate' which is a kind of demon congress that you can ask for upping your movement, getting better items, and so forth. They can usualy be a pain, but can be bribed with items to vote for you instead of against. Shops gain levels as you buy things, which lets you buy better items. Unfortunately regaining magic and health points can only be done at a hospital that charges money, so having lots of cash is a plus. The game even has a special place to level up or just enjoy random maps, item world. Item world is where you actualy jump into your items, killing 'specialist' to up the item's stats and powers. Overall is a great game that will hook you for untold amounts of time. Getting your characters at high levels takes months, sometimes years, but the game keeps you into it so this is definately a game to buy if you like long lasting games that are also fun and original.
