Time to grab your matey and head out to the sea for a good old fashioned pirate adventure. Sea Dogs can be best defined as a cross between RPG and simulation. The story goes that your father left on a boat and never came back. You have no idea what your father looks like other then a pendent that has a picture of him on the back. Once of age, you set out for your own adventure of fame, fortune, and info on your father. Like any good pirate, you have to get the ok to do some pillaging from a paticular nation, and also to get some missions that will give you some much needed gold. And there is the problem with the game, the money. You start off in a tiny little dink ship, which makes it hard to attack other ships, ship items for trade, or have enough crew members to board and attack anouther ship. Crews require payment every month, and they chew up your budget quick. Repairing damage done in battle is sick. Sometimes repairing 5% of your hull will run you back over 500 gold. You will need to repair a lot, seeing as how through a massive part of the game you wont have the accuracy needed to really hit enamy ships with shot and they usualy hit you something like 7 times out of 10 at long range and 10 times out of 10 at close range. When you actualy board an enamy vessial, the ship you attack slams hard against your hull, causing damage to your ship, and also the enamy ship can get one more shot into you while you are grappling them. Still, even with the odds tiped out of your side, you can still make something of yourself if you get good enough. Working and gaining experience points gains the ability to use better ships and bring up skills like repairing and boarding assalts. Over all a good game. It is a bit unfair and the interface is clunky, but still fun for a good long while.
