One of the more realistic and in-depth games I have managed to get my hands on.  Victoria is a nation building simulation where you jump in as the leader of a major wolrd power during the early 1800's and continue to rule until the time around the end of the first world war.  For starters, this game touches on a period of time that most dont know about but was very important in world history, and the game makes this a point as most of the events revolve around actual events that occured during this time period.  For those of you who have played the game but find it too easy, the problem is that you have not played the most recent upgread which ups the difficulty to an insane level.  In order to build an army, you need man power an money.  While money is not too hard to get a hold of if you can micro manage your nation's budget and improve industry and transport to get the most from your people's taxes as they grow in income, getting man power is not so simple.  In the original game, manpower was plentiful so building a massive army was only an issue of having the money to supply them.  In the update, manpower is ungodly hard to comeby.  A simple division (about 10000 men) requires 10 manpower to make.  Starting out, France has about -30 manpower, so you can understand why making an army is a little harder this time around.  The only way to fix this is to max defense spending, but doing so can break your budget.  This makes the game a bit more realistic and forces you to use your brains to figure out how to expand your empire without using the old 'mass armies to smash others' tactic and using diplomatic solutions to fix a problem.  For those who like history and games based on time periods that are not touched on by other games, or those who think that using armies for world conquest is too shallow and want more of a challange, buy a copy and grab an update from the game's website.  You wont be disappointed.
