This is a great game that has been reduced to just "above average" by the "been there - done that syndrom". Had GTAIII not come out only a year ago, had this been the first release rather than the second, then I would agree with some of the magazines and websites that are lavishing so much praise on this game. And while I'm enjoying it - I've done all of this before!! It really is not much different, and therefore gets a little boring at times particularly to those of us that spent 100 hours or so playing the last game.
I also am a little more critical of the graphics (or lack thereof - why can't the characters have fingers?) the difficult controls and so on. These issues have been improved since GTAIII - but - while they are better now they bother me more because the "freshness" of the game last year made me overlook the difficulties.
Am I making any sense here? I think that GTA:VC is a better game than GTAIII that I am enjoying less. The excitement, let's say, of watching a hooker get to the car, and the laughs when the car all of a sudden started rocking and the health meter moving up was incredible. It was new. It was different. Now it's a "version 1b", better yes, but not as much fun. It would seem a lot of the fans on this site agree (average user vote of 8). The magazines and videogame websites that rate it a 97%-100% are in a bind because it *is* better than the last game, if you compare it feature for feature, there is more, more, more - so they almost *need* to give it a higher score than the last time.
Too bad it's not as much fun. But hey, an "8" ain't bad.
