Every so often I buy a game that is void of button mashing and killing. I do this so my girlfriend and I can play a game together that doesn't involve mass murder. We have played all of the Myst games together over the years and recently got around to playing this one. I thought I would write a brief review.
Graphics/Sound - Not as pretty as other myst games but still very impressive even on lower end systems. I enjoyed the 3D environments and the overall feel of the game. Sound was very good, there is a spot where you in a room where a massive revolving rock door is in constant motion.... it is almost deafening. Overall 20/25
Gameplay - It is a Myst game so expect a fair amount of puzzles and almost no interaction with other humans... well it was supposed to be an online game but that never materialized. I enjoyed a great number of the puzzles and completing them we both felt a great sense of accomplishment. Unfortunately, there were too many leaps of faith puzzles for me and having to use a FAQ to get clues for puzzles is one thing but using them and still not understanding how you possibly would have figured out the puzzle on your onw is a whole other matter. Overall 22/35
Bang for $ - Pretty standard for an adventure game 12 - 15 hours without replay value. We did purchase the complete cronicles but because the tail end of puzzles left both of us with sour stomachs we didn't even attempt the add-ons. Overall 16/20
Personal View - As I prefaced this review, I play these games in tandem and as a break from FPS, RPG's and Sports games. The game was very intriging to begin with but based in part on the time we devote as a couple to finishing these games and the scratch your head nature of many of the final puzzles, ultimately I was thrilled to see it end. Overall 12/20
