Final Fantasy X is your typical Square RPG with a turn-based combat system. Not that anybody who is a fan could be upset with that.
The graphics, particularly the cut-scenes are wonderful for an RPG. The summonings, in particular, are incredible to view, though they begin to lose their appeal later in the game.
The storyline is fairly compelling, and typical of a FF game. Once you get into the game you are looking forward to find out what happens next.
The audio for this game is above average. Listening to Tidus can (and will) get a bit annoying, but the voice acting as a whole is above average.
Square did away with their typical experience to level and added a sphere grid. You your acquired experience allows you to move along the sphere grid. In order to improve on or learn a skill you need to use the corresponding sphere (power, magic, etc.) which are abundant in battle. This adds a whole new dimension to gameplay as you can now strategize as to what skills you want your character to improve (several times the grid branches off for each character, and you need to decide which one will help you more).
The final boss battle was a bit on the easy side, considering the string of massive bosses you had to get through to get to that point. The ending was typical of a Japanese RPG.
Random combat encounters begin to get annoying as you approach the end of the game. On occassion, the save system is a bit annoying (at times there is too long of a period between save spheres). The mini-games (like blitzball) are not that entertaining.
Overall I give this game an 8.8. If you are a fan of RPGs or Final Fantasy you will be very happy with this title.
