I didn't love homeworld but I played it a lot and it was fun..  so I discovered Project Earth and it was supposed to be more streamlined and a little easier.

It was more streamlined but with a camera that was hard to learn, lousy voiceacting and when finally ingame a even worse tutorial.  I had to restart the tutorial once just to be able to complete it.

The game - well it is streamlined to the point where you can only order your troops to move or attack.  With only two modes, aggressive or defensive, it becomes a quick race to mine ore, produce crafts and wait for enough units to attack.  No real tactics and hardly no strategy.  I would not recommend anyone buying this game.
