Wing Commander Prophecy is probably as good a port of the original game as possible on the GBA.
The story is just as lame as the original. It goes along the lines of there being an ancient Kilrathi prophecy about... blah, blah, blah. The story is VERY lame.
The game's story is told by a cool 3d opening, a cool 3d ending, and really lame dialogue between missions. The dialogue is less lame in the GBA version becuase it doesn't have the crappy acting but is more lame in some ways because of the same crappy music playing behind the dialogue throughout the whole game.
The graphics in this game are pretty cool. It's 3d alright, no joke. The polygon count is relatively low but it's still impressive, being on the GBA and all. The framerate isn't half bad either, it does slow down though when you get close to a capital ship, but it's not that big of a deal.
Your wingmen and your enemies talk during gameplay, very cool. The music during missions is good but the music during dialogue sequences gets VERY annoying. The sounds effects are average, it's just your typical laser sound effects.
The controls are much better than I thought they'd be. 'A' is guns, 'B' is missiles, and 'L' + 'R' are used as toggles for other functions such as changing guns or ordering your wingmen. My only gripe with the controls is that the select button is used for dropping decoys (for dodging missiles, kind of like dropping flares in flight sims). This is a problem because decoys need to be dropped at a moments notice and the select button is difficult to get to right away on my SP, I'd hate to try it on a normal GBA.
Gameplay seems to be the sasme as the original PC version except that the hit detection is a little easier in this version. This is quite understandable and welcome because without an analogue joystick it's rather difficult to aim properly, but Raylight has somehow pulled off fun gameplay in this game.
The game includes all 48 missions from the original game as well as all of the ships from the original.
Unlike the original game, this one includes multiplayer! Since I don't have a second copy of this game I didn't have a chance to test it out, but playing a 4 player dogfight looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
Overall, the game is quite fun. Those of you who played through the PC version might want to skip it as all of the missions are exactly the same. Those people that hate space sims should skip this because this is a space sim, not an arcade shooter. Some strategy is required to succeed in this, such as being able to succesfully control your wingmen and knowing which enemies to attack and what guns/missiles to use.
If you didn't like the original Wing Commander: Prophecy, you're not gonna like this game either.
I have to give kudos to Raylight to making this game, when I first heard about it I thought it was a joke, it turned out much better than I thought.
