First off, the graphics absolutely rock. This is clearly evident when the camera zooms up close to your fight and he does his little trademark taunts at the beginning of each fight. This game really shows what the PS2 can do. The backgrounds are beautiful, the characters astounding, and best of all, there's not one hint of slowdown.
When I first popped in this game I didn't know what I was in for. I haven't played a VF game since the original on the Saturn so it took me a while to get used to the controls. Luckily there's a great training mode set up to teach all from the basic punches and kicks to the advanced. You are given a task and have to complete it to move on to the next round of training. Great stuff for newcomers and veterans alike.
One thing I noticed about this game, unlike some fighters I know (*cough*deadoralive*cough*), is that this game seriously takes lots of skill. The first time I played I absolutely sucked ass, I mean the computer was landing perfects on me. Then I played a little bit more and now I got the hang of it. I can just imagine all the crap you can do if you really are good at a game such as this.
The A.I. system is cool, but I still can't figure it out. I've gotten the basic jist of it though and my A.I. fighter has actually won a few fights against the computer, making it up to stage 4. It'll be especially cool when I get him good and can play my friends' A.I. characters to see who is the best trainer. It's like a Tamigotchi with a twist.
One thing I know I'll love is the ability to earn items and suits. It'll just be cool to make the character you use to look the way YOU want.
Overall, this seems like an amazing game so far. This is definately a must-buy for fighters as is offers never before seen features not seen in other fighting games. When was the last time you were able to tell an A.I. character if you liked the move it did or not and were able to actually form it into a mirror image of yourself using your fighting techniques? Didn't think so. I'm pleased that I bought this game and feel it was definately worth my $50. Go out and get it or at least rent it, even if you don't like fighting games.
