Gran Turismo 3 is without a doubt an instant classic and one of the deepest games ever released.
The graphics are stunning and really showed the world what the PS2 could do right out of the gate. The cars are gorgeous and the tracks are so realistic. I mean, driving along being blinded by rays of sunshine peeking through the trees is not something I ever thought I'd have to compete with in a car game, but you do have to deal with that here. The attention to detail that they paid to moments like this in the game help to set GT3 apart from its competitors.
As for the cars, well they have just about every car manufacturer and car you could ever dream of, and while they left out a few key vehicles it does nothing to lessen the fun factor. I myself have only gotten through about 51% of the game and have not tired of the vehicles at my disposal, even knowing that I more than likely don't have a full collection.
The handling and physics of these cars is nothing less than superb. Having played other games like Sega GT that came so near to perfection only to frustrate the hell out of me at times while I crashed into the walls and spun out of first place, I can really appreciate what seems to be realistic racing conditions and the way your vehicle responds at different speeds and on different turns, etc... (I say, "what seems to be" because I've actually never raced a Honda S2000 at 135 MPH down a twisting road).
I also love the fact that they took the time to add the rally tracks and cars so that I didn't have to go out and buy a separate game to get my rally fix. It's like the cherry on top of a sundae that already tasted great!
Overall this game is nearly perfect and scores a rock solid "10" in my book... and now that it's out there as a greatest hits for $20 you have absolutely no reason not to run out and pick up this game!
