When you think about it Golden Sun is really, in my opinion, only as great as it is because of the fact that it was released for a system that fits into your pocket. With that said I still enjoyed the game very much and, being an RPG fan, was ecstatic to have an RPG to take with me on a recent trip to Europe.
This game has some of the prettiest graphics I've seen so far on the GBA and really shows the systems' potential. The dialogue could have been a bit better but what RPG has ever had you thinking "boy this story is Oscar worthy!".
The Djinn system was nicely put together and I enjoyed the quest to try and find them all. I do wish they would have done more in terms of allowing you to mix an Earth Djinn with a Venus Djinn (and so on and so forth) in order to get more rare spells or abilities. For me, this would have added some replay value to the game.
The game itself was not all that hard to get through but they kind of threw me for a loop with the final boss battle which seemed a bit overdone to me considering the lack of difficulty the rest of the game.
In the end I think the best part about the game, besides the graphics, is that it reminded me so much of the 16bit glory days on my SNES back in the early 90s. All in all, despite its minor flaws, Golden Sun would be a great addition to any RPG collection.
